Cities 2050

The Minister of Housing and Urban Planning, Felipe Ward, presented «Cities 2050», a strategy that aims to develop integrated, equitable, sustainable and resilient cities for the next 30 years. This initiative was analyzed by national and international experts, who addressed the challenges of cities in the long term.

System of Indicators of Urban Development and Territorial Well-being for Cities 2050 is the first digital tool that allows us to compare indicators, identify gaps, and monitor the state of progress of cities at the national level


This tool was developed by the Cities Observatory UC; and Minvu’s Center for Studies and City and Territory.

What is Cities 2050?

It is a long-term strategy that aims to develop integrated, equitable, sustainable and resilient cities for the next 30 years. The program contemplates the creation of a platform for the «System of Indicators of Urban Development and Territorial Well-being for Cities 2050», which seeks to monitor the goals and progress of cities through a method of indicators of urban standards to build a «City Plan».

Participants

The Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning is in charge of the Executive Secretariat, with the technical support of the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the National Council for Urban Development (Consejo Nacional de Desarrollo Urbano, CNDU).

Who this strategy aims towards

Local and regional governments; those involved in territorial planning and in charge of managing metropolitan areas in matters of transportation, housing, environment and public works.

By 2050, we need to have more integrated, equitable, sustainable and resilient cities, so that their inhabitants can be happier and more conscientious in inhabiting their spaces.
